The Witt & Play Code of Conduct is the set of standards every member agrees to before they can join or host a game. Because games happen in the real world — often in members’ private homes — the community is held to a high standard of conduct. Accepting the code of conduct is a one-time requirement that gates access to the entire platform.

Acceptance gate

After you complete the five-step identity verification, a blocking dialog appears the first time you access the platform. You must:
  1. Read the full code of conduct in the scrollable dialog.
  2. Check the box confirming that you agree to the safety standards, code of conduct, and the assumption of physical risk inherent in pickup sports.
  3. Click I agree — let’s play.
You cannot dismiss the dialog by clicking outside it or pressing Escape. The acceptance is recorded with a timestamp on your account. The dialog does not reappear after you accept.
The full code of conduct is always available in the app at /code-of-conduct, even after you’ve accepted it.

Summary of the rules

The eight sections below are drawn directly from the platform’s code of conduct source.
Treat every host and player with kindness and respect, regardless of skill, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, body type, or background. No harassment, intimidation, slurs, hate speech, sexually explicit comments, or unwanted physical contact — on or off the field.Trash talk is fine; cruelty is not. If someone asks you to stop, stop.
Play within your physical limits and the agreed-upon skill level. Don’t fake your level to get into a higher-tier game.Warm up, hydrate, and bring any personal protective gear your sport requires. If a player is injured, pause the game and help. Call emergency services for serious injuries.Never play under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Hosts may remove anyone who is impaired.
Hosts: arrive on time, bring the basic equipment you committed to, communicate the field and location clearly, and follow the venue’s rules.Guests: only RSVP if you intend to show up. Cancel as early as possible if plans change so a waitlisted player can take your spot.Repeated no-shows can get you removed from the community.
Call your own fouls honestly. Don’t cheat scores, manipulate teams, or sabotage other players.Resolve disputes calmly. The host has final say on game rules and team assignments.
Leave fields, courts, and venues better than you found them — pack out trash, respect noise rules, and follow any park or facility guidelines.Don’t damage equipment or property. Hosts may charge for clearly negligent damage.
Don’t share other players’ personal information (phone numbers, addresses, photos) outside the game without their consent.Keep chat and comments on-topic and game-related. No spam, scams, or off-platform recruiting without host permission.
If you see or experience a violation, use the Report button on the player’s game card, or email the team directly. Reports are reviewed privately.Violations may result in warnings, removal from games, or a ban from Witt & Play. Severe issues — assault, hate speech, harassment — may also be reported to local authorities.
Pickup sports involve real physical risk — sprains, collisions, and worse can happen. By participating you acknowledge that you play at your own risk.Witt & Play is a coordination platform; it is not the organizer of any specific game and does not provide insurance, refereeing, or medical services. Hosts and players are responsible for their own conduct, equipment, and venue compliance.
