Your preferences tell Witt & Play what you play and where you play it. The platform uses them to filter the game feed so you see sessions that match your interests and are within a reasonable distance. You set your preferences for the first time during onboarding, and you can update them at any time from two places: the Welcome page (/welcome) and your Profile page.

Sport and game categories

Witt & Play organizes every sport and game into four categories. You select the categories you’re interested in, then optionally drill down to choose specific sports within each one. To select categories:
  1. On the Welcome page or Profile page, find the “What do you play?” or “Games I’m interested in” section.
  2. Tap any category card to toggle it on. A checkmark appears when a category is active.
  3. When you select a category, the sports within it appear below so you can select individual ones.
The four categories and their full sport lists are:
Badminton, Padel, Pickleball, Racquetball, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis
Basketball, Flag Football, Kickball, Soccer, Softball, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball
Bocce, Cornhole, Croquet, Disc Golf, Horseshoes, Spikeball
Backgammon, Bridge, Bunko, Canasta, Catan, Chess, Cribbage, D&D, Dominos, Euchre, Hearts, Mahjong, Monopoly, Rummy, Scrabble, Spades, Trivia Night
You must select at least one category to save your preferences. On the Profile page, you must also select at least one individual sport from your chosen categories — both fields are required there.
Deselecting a category automatically removes any sports from that category that you had previously selected. Your individual sport selections stay in sync with your active categories at all times.

Preferred city and search radius

Your preferred city determines the center point for game searches. Your search radius sets how far out from that center Witt & Play looks for games. To set your location on the Welcome page:

Use your current location (recommended on mobile)

Tap Use my current location. Witt & Play requests your device’s GPS coordinates, reverse-geocodes them to a city and state, and fills in both fields automatically. On mobile, this happens automatically on first load if you haven’t set a city yet.

Or enter your city manually

Type your city name and select your state from the dropdown. When you click out of the city field, Witt & Play validates the city by geocoding it. A checkmark appears if the city is found; an error appears if it can’t be matched to coordinates in the selected state.

Set your search radius

Drag the Search radius slider to your preferred distance. The minimum is 5 miles and the maximum is 100 miles. The default is 25 miles.
If you travel frequently or split time between locations, you can update your preferred city any time from Profile or /welcome to shift the center of your game feed.

Intro blurb

Your intro blurb is a short, optional piece of text (up to 500 characters) that introduces you to the community. It appears on your public profile and, if you opt in, on the new-members spotlight page. To write or update your intro blurb:
  • On the Welcome page: scroll to the “Introduce yourself” section.
  • On the Profile page: scroll to the “Feature me on the new-members page” section.
You can write the blurb yourself or use the Generate with AI button. The AI generator uses your display name, selected sports, city, and state to draft a short intro. The draft is pre-filled into the text area where you can edit it before saving.

New-members spotlight

The new-members spotlight (/community/new) is a public page where recently joined members can introduce themselves to the community. Opting in makes it easier for existing members to welcome you to their next game. To opt in:
  1. Check or toggle Feature me on the welcome page (on the Welcome page) or Feature me on the new-members page (on the Profile page).
  2. Your name, sports, and intro blurb appear on the spotlight page for 30 days from the date you opt in.
To opt out:
  • Toggle the same switch off on your Profile page and save. Your listing is removed immediately.
The 30-day spotlight window starts from the date you opt in. If you opt back in after opting out, the window resets from the new opt-in date.
